Le Monde Beryl
Established in 2016 by Lily Atherton Hanbury and Katya Shyfrin, Le Monde Beryl reimagines classic shoes and accessories with a contemporary sensibility.
At the core of their collection is the traditional Venetian gondolier’s shoe, originally sewn together from scraps of fabric and rubber during the Second World War; today, their sustainably-produced slippers are handmade in Italy by master artisans who employ age-old techniques and the finest velvets, satins, and suedes, as well as intricate embellishments. Designed with both the everyday and adventures in mind, they are at once sensible and sensuous.
Rooted in the spirit of curiosity and exploration, their offerings weave together decorative traditions that span countries and eras, from ancient Egyptian scrolls and the metalwork of the Byzantine Empire to the Mughal Empire’s ornate compositions. The name Le Monde Beryl references a family of gemstones, which includes emerald, aquamarine, and morganite; like such exceptional objects, Le Monde Beryl’s richly-colored creations—Mary Janes and Moroccan slippers; leather bags and bespoke jewellery—are crafted to be admired from every angle and stand the test of time.
